Searching, selecting, and curating digital content with DigitalNZ

Thomasin Sleigh from DigitalNZ will give an introduction to the search engine www.digitalnz.org, a free service run by the National Library that brings together the digital collections of archives, libraries, museums, and galleries from across Aotearoa. She will show how to search for, and filter content on the site, as well as use "Stories" to curate relevant material—a useful tool for students' assignments and research. This session will be particularly relevant to teachers of the social sciences, as DigitalNZ provides an easy way to access primary and secondary sources from New Zealand's past, some of which are harder to find via other search engines. No prior knowledge is required and attendees are welcome to bring a computer or other device to explore the site during the session, however, there will be no specific hands-on activities, so this is not a requirement.
